It was the first time, when the podium of the general classification was not entirely French. The 2nd in overall François Faber, although born and lived in France was originally a Luxembourgian.

Lucien Petit-Breton became the first cyclist to win the Tour de France twice after he repeated his success from previous year.

At one stage, Henri Desgrange’s car broke down, and the tour organiser had to finish the stage in a horse-drawn carriage.

Although the Tour de France was stil a ride for individual competitor,  cyclists, who were sponsored by the same company were riding the same type of jerseys. The group of cylclists sponsored by Labor were riding in yellow jersey.

Marie Marvingt, a female athlete was refused to participate the race because the competition was for men, but she rode the entire course alone anyway.
