Tour de France 1984

The 71th Tour de France was held between 29th June and 22 July 1984.
The course included 22 stages and was 4,021 km (2,499 mi) long.In 1984 Bernard Hinault moved to the La Vie Claire team after riding for Reanult-Elf since 1978. Now the clear leader of his old team was the defending champion Laurent Fignon. Also a young American rider, Greg LeMond was part of the Renault-Elf team, which dominated at the race: they won a total of 10 stages. Many people questioned Fignon’s victory previous year due to the absence of Bernard Hinault and the bad luck of Pascal Simon. The Professor answered with an incredibly strong performance of 5 stage victories. Besides the three individual time trials  (7th, 16th and 22nd stages) he also won 2 mountain stages in the Alps ( 18th and 20 stages).  He jumped into the first position of the General Classification on the 16th stage.
Another notable victory:

Stage 17 Grenoble to Alpe d’Huez – Luis Herrera (Colombia)

Fun fact: Andri Van der Poel )Kwantum Hallen-Yoko)wore the yellow jersey for one stage.
