The oldest of the famous Buysse bothers, Marcel Buysse was born on the 1st November 1889 in Wontergem.  (Belgium)

Marcel Buysse finished 4th the Tour de France 1912.  Next year he was leading the race for two days but he had a puncture, lost time, dropped from the top of the general classification. He won a total of 6 stages that year and became 2nd behind Philippe Thys. This was Buysse’s best Tour de France GC result.

1914 was a year of success for him, he won the Ronde van Vlaanderen.

Marcel Buysse was the first non-Italian to manage to get a podium place at the Giro d’Italia (3rd in 1919).

He died on 3rd October 1939.
