Swiss rider Ferdi Kübler won the 37th Tour de France in 1950. He became the leader of the general classification after the Italian team left the race. This was a protest action after Gino Bartali was attacked by French fans in the mountains. Which means, that the current leader of the race, Fiorenzo Magni had to give up his dreams of winning the Tour de France too.
Ferdind “Ferdi” Kübler (1919-2016)
had several other success besides the overall victory of Tour de France in 1950. He was a world champion (1951), also collected a silver (1949) and a bronze (1950) at the World Championships.
Kübler is one of the few riders to manage to win La Fléche Wallonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege back to back. (He did it twice, in 1951 and 1952) He also competed Giro d’Italia. After a 4th place (1950) he reached the 3rd position of the podium twice (1951 and 1952).
Emilio Croci Torti (1922-2013)
was also a Swiss rider, was member of the Swiss national team at the Tour de France for several times. He usually fullfilled the position of a domestique.
