Alfredo Binda, the second Campionissimo, the big star of the 1920s hold several records. Two of them are the most victories and also the most consecutive victories in a single race. What’s really astonishing is that he achieved these successes during two different editions of Giro d’Italia.

In 1927 Binda managed to win 12 stages from the possible 15, and he became the second cyclist after Costante Girardengo who managed to lead the race from the start to finish. (There are two other riders with the same achievement, Eddy Merckx and Giannni Bugno.)

Winning 8 stages in a row Binda made possible during Giro d’Italia 1929. It was also the year of his fourth overall victory ( a record number then). No wonder that his dominance at the race made organizers worried about people might loose their interest following the event (and buying La Gazzetta dello Sport), and they asked Binda for not participating the Giro next year.
