Three hard days in the Alps after the rest day.
Unlike the usual system of a grand tour, the second week of Tour de France doesn’t start with sprint stages, but provides some hard days in the mountains.
Tour de France visited the Alps first in 1911, right after the successful introduction of Tourmalet and the Pyrenees to the race previous year.

Tour de France visits Alpe d’Huez again.
When the race visited Alpe d’Huez last time in 2018, Geraint Thomas, in yellow jersey, won the stage.
Alpe d’Huez was introduced to the race in 1952 and became one of the greatest legend of Tour de France immediatelly.
After 24 year hiatus, the next time, when Alpe d’Huez was included in the program of Tour de France, was the 63rd edition on 1976.
Alpe d’Huez witnessed several memorable moments during its 70 years of Tour de France history.
