After 12 years (minus the time of First World War) of Belgian dominance, Tour de France celebrated a French winner again. Henri Pelissier and Henri Degrange didn't like each other very much. Pelissier, alongside with his brother Francis skipped Tour de France 1921 and 1922. Desgrange wrote an article about how Pelissier would never win the race. Pelissier proved that the "founding father of Tour de France" was wrong.
There were three categories of cyclists in the peloton: 1st category (21 cyclists), 2nd category (26 cyclists) and independent, so called touristes routiers (92 cyclists)
Ottavio Bottecchia, teammate of Henri Pelissier became the first Italian rider to wear the yellow jersey.
Technical assistance from team directors was allowed. It was still not allowed to change equipment with other cyclists.
Time bonus for stage winners were was introduced to Tour de France. After each stage, the overall time of the stage winner was reduced with two minutes.
